SFS a world leading contract research organization (CRO) providing the pharmaceutical industry with “solid state“ chemical development services while Tillotts Services (a business unit within Tillotts) is a leading global supplier of liquid-filled capsules and operates a drug delivery and integrated cro/cmo service. The business activities and services provided by both companies are complementary and will be able to offer Customers an integrated service from API development and characterisation all the way through to formulation design, clinical and commercial drug product supply and packaging.
SFS is principally involved in providing the pharmaceutical industry with “solid state“ chemical development services that include; Salt Screening, Co-crystal Screening, Crystallisation Screening, Polymorph Screening, Batch Process Development, Physical Properties and Developability Testing.
Tillotts is a specialty pharmaceutical company with a leading position in the field of gastroenterology with its headquarters in Rheinfelden, Switzerland. After a great 2011, we are wishing all our clients and friends a happy and successful 2012, once again we will be attending a number of exhibitions and conferences, check our events calendar to see where we will be next and book an appointment with us.
On the horizon in Q1 at SFS will be a move to a new, custom designed, 7000 sqft facility in Midlothian along with the launch of an early phase solid form screening service. Beyond Q1, SFS expect to build on the already extensive analytical and scale-up programs it offers. The company will again be attending all the major trade shows in 2012 and will be available for customer visits on request.

Solid Form Solutions welcomes the following people to the team:
William McFarlane (Sales Executive) - William joins us SFS from William Tracey Fine chemicals. Previously with Nitech, William has extensive knowledge in scale-up crystallisation and continuous manufacturing.
Katy Alexander (Senior Scientist) - Katy joins SFS from the Materials Science group in Pfizer and comes with a wealth of experience in solid form development.
James Falconer (Project Manager) - James comes to us with a wealth of experience in this area from his previous role at Piramal Healthcare.
Asha Sunkara (Solid Form Screening Scientist) - Asha joins us as a graduate from the London School of Pharmacy and will support new and on-going projects.
Sarah Moorhouse (Analytical Scientist) - Sarah joins us from Macfarlane Smith and has a wealth of experience in the area of method development and validation.
Solid Form Solutions has strengthened their batch process development service by making a large investment in Focused Beam Reflectance Measurement (FBRM) Technology. FBRM has a particular application in crystallisation work, where it is a valuable tool for monitoring particle size and crystal growth, in-situ; leading to more more efficient crystallisation and isolation processes. Solid Form Solutions Ltd have won the Midlothian Chambers of Commerce Award for High Growth. The award was accepted by our Technical Director Dr Stephen Watt who said “it is great to be recognised in our local area and it is a great achievement for our fantastic staff who work tirelessly to bring new drugs closer to the patient”. Solid Form Solutions now employ 20 people and are in the process of recruiting for a further 3 scientists.

We are moving facility: SFS are delighted to announce their expansion plans for Q1 2012 . SFS will be moving to the Fleming Building, Edinburgh Technopole in January 2012 to a branch new custom designed facility. This is an exciting time for the company and will enable us to further expand our services and capabilities and create further jobs in Scotland in the coming months.
Solid Form Solutions Ltd has won the Nexxus Scotland "Most Promising Young Life Science Company Award". The award was accepted by our Quality Assurance Manager John MacKinlay. Nexxus recognised that after only two years we are working with companies around the world, have generated more than £1million in sales, expanded our staff to 14 while still recruiting and have increased our laboratory space and service capabilities to further grow our company for the future. SFS achieves ISO9001:2008 certification:
After 1 ½ days of inspection from the British Standards Institute, Solid Form Solutions has now been recommended for certification to ISO9001:2008. The successful audit has been due to a lot of hard work and overall team effort from all the staff who have fully embraced the quality culture. This now endorses the quality of the screening services already provided by SFS, and will be used to enhance other activities within the company and progress to higher levels of quality standards.
Scottish Life Sciences Mission to Japan Tokyo and Osaka: January 23rd to 28th,
Dr Stephen Watt and William McFarlane will be representing Solid Form Solutions during this mission which has been created to strengthen the links between Scottish and Japanese companies.
